How to measure your dog for a collar

Our dog collars are measured by neck size, not by overall collar length, so please measure your dogs neck, ideally with a fabric tape measure, as you would like the collar to fit.

Or measure your dogs old collar (if you were happy with its fit) from the buckle to the hole that your dog wears their collar on. Please also remember that you should be able to comfortably fit two fingers inside the collar when it is on.

Fabric Collar Care

Our fabric collars and leads all have a webbing core for added strength. They can be machine washed in a regular washing machine, but we recommend covering the buckle with a sock secured with an elastic band to protect the machine. You can also give them a pre wash treatment with the Spot Gone Stick that we sell on our site - it is a miracle stain remover that we swear by for both collars and beds. And our clothes too! Our wool collars & leads can be machine washed on a cold wool cycle.

What is the fabric?

Our Vegan Fabric Dog Collars are created using UK woven upholstery, made by a family run mill in Yorkshire, sewn around a cotton webbing core for added strength. Using specialist upholstery fabric means that the fabric in this collar has gone through the same testing as a sofa - you know those crazy sit test machines that you see in sofa shops with a fake bottom sitting down a million times? Yes, that. It's really great fabric and will take a lot of what your dog will throw at it.

Machine Washable

Machine Washable at 30 C. We wrap a sock around the buckle and dee, secured with an elastic band to protect the drum of your machine from the bashing of the buckle.

Fittings...

The buckle and dee ring have all been used by Creature Clothes for over 20 years and have proven themselves to be brilliantly strong. The collar has eyelets for the collar to do up through.

Double check the size

Sizes: We use neck size rather than overall collar length for our measurements as this creates a more accurate fit for your dog. Please see our page on How To Measure Your Dog for more details.

If you don’t have a fabric tape measure, you can either measure your dog’s existing collar to the point at which the collar is done up, or use a piece of ribbon to gauge your dog’s neck size and then measure the ribbon.

Below you can see all of the sizes and dimensions of our collars and we also give you a rough guide for breeds. However... we will often see 3 dogs of the same breed wearing 3 different size collars. I have 2 labradors – Beetle wears a size 4, Buzz wears a size 5.

Size Chart:

Size 0: Neck Size: 19-24cm/7.5-9.5”. Collar Width: 19mm. Good for puppies and tiny breeds - eg Chihuahuas.

Size 1: Neck Size: 23-30cm/9-10.5”. Collar Width: 19mm. Good for Little Jacks, Mini Poodles, Mini Daxies, Yorkies.

Size 2: Neck Size: 25-35cm/11-13”. Collar Width: 20mm. Good for Boarder Terriers, Caverpoos, Jack Russells, Dachshunds.

Size 3: Neck Size: 31-42cm/12-15”. Collar Width: 23mm. Good for Schnauzers; Cockerpoos, Cocker Spaniels.

Size 4: Neck Size: 40-51cm/15-18”. Collar Width: 25mm. Good for Working Labradors (23kg-ish - skinny), Springer Spaniels, Labradoodles.

Size 5: Neck Size: 46-56cm/18-21”. Collar Width: 30mm. Good for Traditional Labradors (30kg - chunky), Golden Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Ridgebacks.

Size 6: Neck Size: 56-66cm/22-26”. Collar Width: 30mm. Good for Bull Dogs, Great Danes.

Our Brighton Shop

In December 2021 we opened the doors of our very first shop in the heart of Beautiful Brighton. It has been an amazing adventure, moving to such a legendary city on the sea, meeting our customers and becoming a part of the local community. We have a little workshop and personalisation station in our shop to make customers orders while they wait, while our main Creature Clothes Workshop remains on the East Coast of England, in an old WW2 Aircraft Hangar on the East Coast of Suffolk. Our products truly are designed and hand made in the UK by us.
